Sign of the times
This piece aims to capture a moment in time during one summer's day in June 2009. Extracts from the Financial Times newspaper are used as a backdrop, illustrating a snapshot of the world's business, finance and political status. During these unstable and unpredictable times, some things remain unchanged. The seasons continue to change as the blossoms slowly start to fall from the trees, scattering to leave a carpet of pink and white on the ground. Due to their brief blooming period, cherry blossoms have come to symbolise the transience of life. These flowers, along with daises, have been preserved during different stages of their life cycle and are used to decorate the figure, signifying hope during these volatile times.
