SITE
Harcourt Hill, Oxford, UK
BRIEF
To provide:
- Archive and research facilities for the Wesley and Methodist Studies Centre (WMSC).
- A gallery which will provide an Oxford based venue for regularly exhibiting the Methodist art collection and for university wide and community use, which may also be utilised as a hospitality space within the Westminister Institute.
- An additional seminar room for WMSC.
OBJECTIVES
- Freedom of movement while integrating with existing buildings
- Simple spiritual space without symbolism
DESIGN CONCEPT
'Creating a functional gallery space that will form the main circulation route to access the additional areas'
As the gallery space will not house a permanent exhibition, LANA did not want to create a separate building dedicated to the gallery. The main gallery therefore forms the main circulation route to access the other functions of the scheme.
